In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF)
The In-Vitro-Fertilization (IVF) is a method for the extracorporal fertilization of human eggs and is used if the reason for the unintentional childlessness are mainly reduced to the woman (e.g. closed tubes, hormonal disregulation, endometriosis, PCO). A precondition for the use of this laboratory method is a normal diagnostic sperm finding of the man. After the retrieval and preparation of the woman’s oocytes as well as of the spermatozoa of her partner, oocytes and sperms together are set into a special culture media for about 20 hours. During this time fertilization takes place and in the course of the ongoing cultivation until day two or three the embryos develop and cleave up to the 8-cell stage. Then the embryos are given back to the uterus (embryo transfer).
