Intrazytoplasmatische Spermieninjektion (ICSI)
A further method of in-vitro-fertilization is the intracytoplamatic sperminjection (ICSI). This treatment is well suited for couples whose childlessness is caused by the limited fertility of the man or who have had already an IVF-treatment that failed in the fertilization of the oocytes. Using a special micromanipulator single sperms can be injected into the oocytes of the woman. So it is possible to fertilize oocytes which could not be fertilized with IVF or insemination because of the low number and/or the reduced motility of the man’s spermatozoa. The ongoing development of the embryo until the transfer back to the uterus is the same as for IVF (see InfoCenter).
