Andrological Causes
In approximately one third of all cases of infertility is a male subfertility. It is an inadequate sperm quality, diagnosed by microscopic evalutation of the semen, usually carried out by an urologist or a reproductive specialist. In a Semen testing, the quantity, as the number of sperm per ml of ejaculate, the total sperm count in the entire ejaculate, the sperm motility and various functiontests give informations about the sperm cell quality and its fertility potential. At a density of at least 20 million sperm / ml and a forward movement of at least 50% of the sperm, a Normozoospermie, is diagnosed as a normal sperm finding. Furthermore, the long-term sperm motility is important. After 24 hours in culture, the motility of the semen should not be badly reduced compared to baseline. The sperm morphology, i.e. the shape of the sperm is very important too, since not all good motile sperm cells at the same time have a normal shape. The proportion of infertile sperm among malformed sperm is very high. In a healthy semen there are at least 30% intact sperm cells.Infocenter
